Janzen Reynolds as Rosencrantz holding the Crown.
Progress with props has been a gradual process for this department. From the
start, the props department knew that they would need to be updating the props list throughout the progression of CROWNS, as a devised play. As the props department received more sections of the devised script, they went through this specific script as thoroughly as
possible to mark out where certain props could be used, or could exist. By breaking
down the script, the department determined what each character needed, and how much they would use it throughout the play.
One difficulty the props department found was that some of the characters had weapons that could be dangerous throughout the play. This was an issue because of the safety of the weapons to be used on stage. This therefore provided a few meetings with the creative supervisor about safety and how the props department could go about constructing these weapons while keeping safety in mind. When creating the weapons, they also had to consider strength and portability. The props department had to consider the materials they were using, and the methods of construction that they were utilising.

As for the other props, nearly all of them were small objects that they could either buy or
find in the Annexe theatre's prop room, so this made it easy to source these and to start using them as rehearsal props.
The props department team have been influenced by the industrial effect and have applied this to their props design. When it comes to the weapons being used however they have chosen to have wooden black and white weapons. These black and white weapons will not only stand out under the lighting but also represent contrasting elements of alive and dead, good and evil as well as the aspect of a character being a mixture of both opposites.
