All Sound scapes sound designed has been created by Zac Eichner, Kayden Bohl and Josh Martin.
The role of sound in a production is to develop a sound pitch and an idea that adheres to the creative direction of the production. They must consult the director of their given production and adhear to the directors direction when contracting their sound design.
Depending on the given production the sound design can be a major technical element, or it can be a smaller technical element, this depends on the demands of the show, and above all the artistic direction of the show. Sound can enhance a show it can provoke emotion to the audience, and it can inspire a overall feeling and mood to outsiders, and internal members of the production.
They have been recording industrial effects as well as the human voice to establish an overall continuous sound loop of effects.
The script of Crowns is quite confronting, which is something that the sound department really wanted to focus on through our sound effects and Music for the production. Robert Lewis has wanted live sound from the outset, so this department immediately got in to the composition of the soundtrack. Not only does composing the soundtrack ourselves add a level of ownership to the production, it gives us the option to spend more money on speakers, software and recording as we won't be paying for rights of each individual sound tarck.
Originally this department wanted to revolve our sound around three instruments (piano, guitar & violin) to keep things simple. However, the production began to take on an industrial style, so we decided it would be better to remove the guitar and violin and replace them with similarly industrial sounds; still coinciding with the live piano. Live percussion is also a reoccurring feature in this production; the set department made the decision to surround the stage in 44 gallon drums in conjunction with idea of live percussion, as they belive this will add to the industrial effect.
Another feature that will reoccur throughout this production is infrasound, whispers and screams; to exaggerate the level of discomfort. Infrasound literally creates discomfort within a persons' stomach, hopefully creating the same level of nerves, guilt or disgust that the characters on stage may be feeling.
